Whether it's a day trip or a holiday, these are our must visit cafes in the Bellarine Peninsula and along the Great Ocean Road
We share our must visit cafes and restaurants in the Bellarine and Great Ocean Road region. These all year round venues have been tried and tested by us. Best of all, they're all located within easy access from Melbourne, so that you can make a most of the local area too.
The Bellarine Peninsula
Hello Birdie is located in Ocean Grove and is a popular location with the locals. Perfect for wet or warm weather, there are options indoor and outdoors to entertain the kids.
Outdoors, there is a great open space in the rear with cubby house, mud kitchen, play boat and basketball hoop. This area is perfect for birthday parties or larger groups. There is also a front yard that is shaded, which is a great option when you want somewhere a bit quieter.
Hello Birdie has a dedicated kid's play area inside, with a great selection of toys to play with. The tables inside are great for intimate groups to enjoy a meal together; as they offer a healthy menu for the kids.
Common Ground Project is a social enterprise cafe aimed at educating the wider community with sustainable agricultural practices and supporting the mental health of hospitality workers.
This is a must visit when the weather calls for it. As they are situated on a working farm, children can get up close with their goats and chooks, roam around the gardens beds and enjoy themselves on their play equipment.
While you enjoy your delicious meal from top quality Melbourne chefs, the kids can make themselves home in the cubby house, play in the sandpit or enjoy a swing. Read more about this great location here
Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie is a short drive from Anglesea and who needs a reason other than chocolate to visit? Not only can you watch the chocolate be made and packaged; there are samples to try and a large selection of chocolate available for purchase. However, there is so much more on offer than chocolate!
Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie
The cafe and outdoor area is a destination itself too. The food is delicious and there's plenty of fun for the kids. There is a large colouring station indoors, which is great for indoor weather. However, if the kids have some energy to burn off, send them outside to their large yard where the kids can have a throw of their balls, play in the shaded sandpit or visit their chicken coup. This is a place for for all of the family to enjoy.
Cafe Moby, in Torquay, is a great spot with the family to visit before or after a beach visit. With options to dine inside or outside; they have a great range on the menu for big and small mouths. However, their rear yard is where the magic is.
With a great open space that is shaded with trees, there's a dedicated section to play, with tables nearby to supervise. Their equipment is undergoing upgrade and will be even better.

Anglesea General Store
Anglesea General Store is a hidden gem, that we wished we'd discovered earlier. The General Store also includes an onsite cafe, where the food looks delicious, but the main attraction is the play area located within the boat shed.
The recent addition has a great range of toys and books for the kids and best of all, it's spacious. The rear garden is also a great area for the kids to burn energy. Purchase something from their display fridge or have something made fresh to order; it'll make your tummy happy.
Morgan's Grill & Bar in Anglesea are cooking up some delicious food and if you're a burger lover, it's a must visit for dinner. Morgan's is very family friendly, providing the kids with a tub of toys and games to keep occupied.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal here and it's a hot spot with the locals too. Keep your eyes peeled on their social media pages for updates, because they often have live music too.
