Identify Australia's feathered friends in your backyard with this book complete with interactive bird sound buttons

Whether youíre 5 years old or 65, itís never too late to get to know the feathered friends in your backyard, and learning their songs will open your eyes to a whole new world.

We received a copy of Fred van Gessel's new Aussie bird ID book for youngsters, and it's a big hit with the kids.

This hardback book features fun facts about all the birds you see in your backyard, at school or at the park, with a double spread dedicated to each feathered friend.

What makes this book rather special is the added bonus of a button on each page, which when pressed plays a recorded bird song matched to each documented species.

There are 12 species covered Ė Tawny Frogmouth, Sulphurcrested Cockatoo, Rainbow Lorikeet, Laughing Kookaburra, Superb Fairy wren, Noisy Miner, Pied Butcherbird, Australian Magpie, Pied Currawong, Willie Wagtail, Silvereye and Welcome Swallow. Our children are loving the familiarity of the bird sounds and learning a little more about our regular backyard visitors.

We think A First Book Of: Australian Backyard Bird Sons by Fred van Gessel would make a fantastic gift for any child showing an interest in wildlife.

Published by New Holland Publishers and available from all good book retailers.
