Rooftop garden restaurant and cafe in Burwood

Urban garden restaurants are few and far between, which is why acre farm & eatery in Burwood Brickworks is one of those rare finds that must be shared.

Burwood Brickworks is a new community development in the East, offering a "wholesome, healthy, convenient lifestyle with a reduced environmental footprint." The development is still in its early stages, however, the "world's most sustainable retail centre" is finished and in use.

acre farm & eatery is one of the largest urban agricultural projects in Australia, positioned on the first floor of Burwood Brickworks.

This rooftop garden, glasshouse cafe and restaurant, led by the farm food team from acre, offers farm-to-table style dining for all ages.

Opt for a casual dining experience in acre's outdoor cafe, where you will be surrounded by fresh, growing produce as you enjoy your chosen dish. Your four legged friends are also allowed to join you in the cafe (not the restaurant), albiet on a leash.

Otherwise book in for a meal in acre farm & eatery's light and bright farmhouse restaurant decked out with modern, rustic decor.

Children are very much welcome, there is a children's menu offering a variety of kid-friendly dishes. Being a rooftop garden, children who do visit the acre farm & eatery are given the option of exploring the grounds including a high-intensity greenhouse to spot growing fruit and vegetables.

There are resident quails who call the acre farm & eatery home, although these much-loved feathery friends are only raised for eggs.

Note that although the farm aims to provide all of the greens, herbs, flowers and a bulk of the veg for the restaurant, any fruit and veg that is supplemented is sourced from farms who follow sustainable practices. Seafood and animal-based proteins are sourced from a mix of carbon-neutral, ethical producers and suppliers.

There aren't many places that offer families a chance to see exactly where the ingredients for their dishes come from, which is one reason why acre farm & eatery differs from the rest.

You will find plenty of parking for acre farm & eatery in the underground carpark, providing of course you are not visiting at peak (i.e Christmas) shopping times.

Book in for a table at the farmhouse restaurant at acre farm & eatery in advance otherwise pop in for a casual dining experience at the glasshouse cafe - both are located on the rooftop at Burwood Brickworks.
