With a house of young boys, it’s hard to get from A to B without watching a digger, rubbish truck, bus, train or anything that moves. So you can imagine the sheer delight of the G boys when we head out to the Tullamarine Aircraft Viewing area in Sunbury.
The small, FREE parking area located at the end of one of the airport’s runways is always busy with the coming of goings of fellow plane spotters.
We simply park up, take a seat on the bonnet and wait…within minutes you can see the lights in the distance of one of the hundreds of plans that come in to Melbourne airport.
The closer the planes get, the more excited the boys (and I) get. With all the sights, sounds and smells of these magnificent flying machines, it’s hard to tear yourselves away. The planes seem so close, you almost feel as if you could see the passengers inside!
There is also an ice cream truck on site and picnic tables.
A great way to while away a few hours with the family.
If you want to make a day of it, why not head on to the retirement place of race horse champions, Living Legends.
How to get there: Go past the airport and head towards Sunbury on Sunbury Road. Turn right at the first round about into Oaklands Road then immediately left.
