Book of the Week: Foxy and Egg

by Jacq_ (follow)

If you are looking for a classic picture book that you will enjoy as much as your kids, Foxy and Egg is your answer.

This delightfully cheeky book tells the story of Foxy DuBois, a stylish egg-loving fox; and Egg, a small nondescript innocent egg, who shows up at Foxy's doorstep.

Whilst Foxy busily prepares a feast for dinner, Egg rolls around the house remarking on Foxy's interesting paintings. The walls are full of chicken and eggs in various poses.

Foxy cunningly feeds Egg a feast for dinner, because she liked to eat big, fat, delicious eggs!

After a night of playing games, it got very late and Foxy insisted that Egg sleep over; she spent the night dreaming of what a delicious eggy breakfast she would have.

When they woke, Egg was enormous and when he hatched, Foxy could not believe her eyes!

A very humorously written story, but the masterpiece of this book is the amazing artwork.
Every page is filled with detailed pictures that jump off the pages.

The effort put into minor details, such as the extravagant artwork on the walls, and the characters facial expressions, makes this book so special; it is easy to see why author/illustrator Alex T. Smith won the World Book Day illustrator for 2014.
