Fans of David Walliams will be delighted to hear, his newest children's book; The World's Worst Children has hit the shelves.
David Walliams is perhaps best known for his role alongside Matt Lucas in the TV comedy show Little Britain.
The computer no longer 'says no' for Walliams, who is now a television presenter and best selling children's book author.
The World's Worst Children is the author's 12th book; previous titles include Billionaire Boy, Gangster Granny, The Boy in the Dress, and Mr Stink to name a few.
The World's Worst Children is a book filled with short tales of five beastly boys and five gruesome girls! Think of the worst kid in school, and then multiply his or her behaviour by 100; that's what you get in the collection of The World's Worst Children.
My almost 8yo is a fussy one with his books, and when he saw the back page, he took things quite literally.
"But Mum, it says in big letters, DO NOT READ THIS BOOK" he said.
After the best part of half-an-hour convincing him this is meant in jest, he finally succumbed to the first couple of pages. Success. Thereafter, Mr Almost 8 continued to read the book without a grumble, and appreciated Walliams humour, as much as I.
Although The World's Worst Children is not Walliams' first book, it is the first to be read in our house, and oh we all laughed and the characters misfortunes! Walliams is in tune with the kids of today, and he continues to make the grown ups giggle, too.
David Walliams is a funny guy; this is evident in his TV shows. When Walliams transfers his comic talent to kid literature, which is particularly true with The World's Worst Children, what you get is an almost too gross, but not too terrible, collection of funnies that certainly had my kid laughing into the evening, instead of going to bed!
The World's Worst Children is illustrated in colour by Tony Ross, best known for his illustrations for the Horrid Henry series by Francesca Simon.
Ross' illustrations are not dissimilar to English cartoonist Quentin Blake (famed for illustrating Roald Dahl's books) although I digress, this review is not about the illustrations per say, but Tony Ross' illustrations coincide wonderfully with the stories in Walliams' tales.
The World's Worst Children by David Walliams is published by Harper Collins RRP 22.99 AUD, and is available from all good book stores.
