After a huge day out in Melbourne, which included an exhausting three hours at Birrarung Marr playpark, we headed into Flinders Lane, following the flashing red neon light which promised ‘Hot beef and Cold Beer’. Joy of joys, the heavens were singing to us as we approached, Huxtaburger.
Two happy well fed kids
The children were thrilled to see the seating was all high stools in front of a bar like table. I usually avoid high stools at all costs with the little ones, but there was no other option so I had to grin a bear it. To be fair, the stools aren’t so high you get a nose bleed, and the kids were so exhausted and desperate to eat they didn’t move much!
Ginger Beer and Burger Heaven
We’re a pretty greedy lot so we ordered a fair bit of food. The burgers are delivered on little silver platters, (it’s more like a tin plate really, but don’t ruin the magic), and the bottles of Ginger Beer are served extra cold!
I had the Huxtaburger which was mouth-wateringly beautiful. I really love a burger; I mean REALLY love a burger. I have eaten a great many in my time, so many in fact, I would say I’m almost an expert in all things ‘burger’. This had to be up there with the best! The brioche bun, the fresh salad, the scrumptious combination of burger and pickles…. I can almost taste it again.
Could it be anymore delicious?
Tim had the Denise, which had umpteen toppings including Jalapeńos. He’s braver than I am. We shared a coleslaw side which was just as it should be; raw and crunchy!
We ordered a ‘Cheesus’ (basic cheese burger) for Poppy, and a ‘baby Clair’ for Monty as he is a chicken man! The portions of fries were bigger than we had imagined; no complaints from us. The onion rings were perfectly crispy, in fact we almost had a fight on our hands for the last one.
Tim and I sipped on Organic Ginger Beer whilst the children made the most of the free refills from the enormous drinks dispenser. I pretended I couldn’t see them.
Full to bursting with burger goodness, and tummy’s full of fizzy drinks, we headed out into Fulham Place, and back to the car.
What awesome parents we are for hunter gathering that meal!
Huxtaburger is an fabulous place to feed the whole family a great meal for under $60. Clean plates all round is always good enough reason for us to come back.
