Myuna Farm is a community farm located in Doveton in Melbourne’s south east suburbs where you can experience farm life and get up close and personal with the animals. There are so many things to do at Myuna Farm and it really does cater for all ages. It is a working farm managed by the local Council and it runs some great sustainability events such as produce swaps where home gardeners can meet to swap excess fruit and vegetables.
We started our visit in the animal nursery where you can pat lambs, goats, rabbits and guinea pigs. My two year old absolutely loved being that close to the animals. There is also a reptile display and a bird aviary which includes a very clever talking cockatoo.
Next stop was a short stroll to some of the paddocks to see and feed some of the larger animals with the food bags that are included with your entry cost. If you and the kids are willing and able you can walk all the way down the paddocks to the beautiful wetlands at the bottom of the property.
Myuna’s farm train is a real point of difference and definitely worth the extra $3 per ticket if you have younger kids as it covers all of the paddocks and the wetlands. My toddler absolutely loved the novelty of the train ride and being able to see all of the animals so quickly. I loved not having to walk all of the paddocks with a toddler and a baby in a pram!
There are pony rides for the kids (again an additional $3 per ticket) and a fantastic little playground and maze conveniently located next to the farm café with tables and chairs looking out onto the play area. There are also plenty of seating options around the farm to sit and relax or have something to eat, as well as free BBQ facilities.
There are birthday party and private function packages, educational programs for school groups and sustainability activities. A horse riding program for people with a disability, Riding Develops Abilities (RDA), also operates at the farm.
If your kids are animal obsessed like my toddler, a trip to Myuna Farm is definitely one to add to the list. It is a fun interactive experience where kids can learn about farm life without leaving the suburbs.
