With school holidays in full swing, the G boys and I ventured to the O’Brien Group Arena in the Docklands for some indoor winter fun. And what a blast we had!

It started with some under 8’s ice fun. Here, a section of the ice rink was cordoned off especially for the young ones to help them get familiar with being on the ice without the hussle bussle of the big kids pushing past them.

The best thing about this was that we could all go on the ice in shoes to start with. When the G boys felt comfortable and confident enough they could don their skates. And they did!

With a selection of fun toys, including penguins, sledges, body boards, balls, ice hockey sticks and very friendly and helpful ice ambassadors, there was enough to keep Mr 2.5, Mr 4.5 and Mr 6 (and Mumma G!) entertained for hours.

Mr 2.5 really enjoyed sliding around in his shoes while making snowballs and digging in the snow pit.
The Under 8’s special session ran for two hours until 11am. After this, the kids were free to skate in the general session.

Once the boys had run their race on the ice, we warmed up in the Enchanted Chalet. Here, they got to work on decorating a gingerbread man, coloured some pictures and got their faces painted.

As if this wasn’t enough, we then headed out to the main rink and took our seats for the main performance of the Nutcracker story. The two narrators took the audience on the journey of the age old classic Christmas tale, The Nutcracker. With slick routines and a lively performance, it kept us all entertained.

But wait there’s more...for those interested in a little down time, you can head upstairs to St Moritz where kids can enjoy winter movies and get to meet some of the stars of the Nutcracker ice show.

We all loved the experience and can highly recommend it to anyone looking for some indoor fun this school holidays.

The Nutcracker Experience runs daily until 10th July.

Entry prices for all day unlimited skating and all four Nutcracker activity zones are
Adult - $27 including skate hire
Child (6 to 14) - $23 including skate hire
Child (3 to 5) - $14 including skate hire
Family (two adults and two children) - $82 including skate hire.
