It's always an exciting time when the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) unveils its newest art installation for kids, in the designated NGV Kids gallery space.

This Autumn, the NGV has opened Fiona Hall: Uneasy Seasons, with two super-sized walk through tree-houses designed for children and teens.

The two tree-houses that form the basis for NGV’s new exhibition for kids and teens are fully-immersive and interactive.

The first room, designed for kids, is bright and filled with colourful life; sunsets, birds and animals. Boxes along the right side of the wall screen short snippets of wildlife videos. Perhaps what was not expected (or maybe it was) is the size of some of the display boxes being the right size to fit small children inside! Kids are invited to craft their own animal to hang from a reed in the 'tree.'

The other room for teens is dark and suitably emo, with black wallpaper, skulls & skeletons in which young folk are encouraged to design an emoji to represent their feelings towards the world's current climate. Printed words to inspire them; climate change, Trump, refugees, pollution.

Although not quite as big as some of the previous exhibitions seen in the NGV Kids gallery space, there's certainly enough here to entertain for a couple of hours. Best of all..it's completely free.

Fiona Hall: Uneasy Seasons opens ahead of the highly anticipated Van Gogh and the Seasons; the largest collection of Van Gogh works to ever come to Australia and a world premiere exhibition, exclusive to the NGV. Van Gogh and the Seasons opens 28 April, 2017.
