Parents in our generation are different. We love our kids and enjoy spending time with them but we want to have fun too! We love to seek out events where we know the kids will enjoy themselves and we can catch up with our friends and let our hair down. The Groove and Graze series of Glen Eira offers just that. My family and I have been to the first two of three of the series and will definitely be going to the last.
The most recent event was held on Saturday at Halley Park in Bentleigh. There were food trucks set up all around the open grass space with funky stools and tables set up under a few umbrellas dotted throughout the park. So much variety in food and snacks with the Timboon Ice-cream van being a personal favourite. Being a warm autumn day, most groups sought the shade of the trees and set up with picnic rugs. There were two entertainers on stilts who blew bubbles for about hours – with kids of all ages following them around. The playground was teaming with children. A DJ was spinning tunes the entire afternoon – they played a great mix of upbeat music which I think would have pleased most. A bar was set up close by to the playground offering drinks.
My two had a great time. My 11 month old loves to be set free in any open space and for my 3 year old spending the afternoon at the park is her idea of heaven. Mummy and Daddy caught up with friends who have a couple of kids of their own that we hadn't seen in a while, had a few drinks and a few laughs.
The next event is on April 1st at Joyce Park in Ormond, so mark it in your diary! The event runs from 12pm-8pm. Bring a picnic rug, some cash and a get your friends together for a fun day for the whole family.
