Does size matter when it comes to watching film? Well, given a choice between on a smartphone beside a snoring passenger, or the 32 x 23 metre high IMAX everest, I wouldn't hesitate. Recently refurbished IMAX Melbourne offers an experience that has to be seen to be believed. But more importantly, IMAX will fascinate your child.
When venturing off to IMAX, I was fully aware I'd enjoy the documentary. But admittedly, assumed my 4yo son would be running up and down the aisles. Well...safe to say, I was pleasantly surprised. Not only was my son intrigued by the jaw-dropping visuals, but also recounted the story to his mum (yes, that would be my wife).
What's more, IMAX seating is extremely kid-friendly; and that's mainly due to its spacious leg-room (about a metre wide!). The size of the seats means your child has room to stand up and wiggle about, whenever the need for a quick stretch arises.
We saw 'Forces of Nature' (rated PG), examining the causes/warning signs of natural disasters, in an effort to better predict them. Though the concepts aren't simplistic, nor are they complex - so kids of all ages can benefit. But not only did we find Forces of Nature educational, being shown on the IMAX screen meant we were living the content.

For instance, when a highrise capsized in an earthquake, we had the structure toppling onto our laps. Add the menacing rumble from the digital surround sound, and IMAX Melbourne becomes a force of nature.
Other kid friendly IMAX films currently showing include Journey To Space 3D; a tribute to international space research and mans mission to Mars and Rocky Mountain Express; a historic steam train journey through the breathtaking vistas of the Canadian Rockies.
