Kid-friendly restaurant in the heart of the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne
How do you get children to eat vegetables? Sitting under a tree in a garden that veggies are grown in might do it.
Jardin Tan is an exceptional French/Vietnamese fusion restaurant, created by award winning chef Shannon Bennett. Situated within the Royal Botanical Gardens in the old observatory cafe, Miss 3 and I where kindly invited to check it out.
Mother Nature rolled out the green carpet as we stepped out of the car and walked into Jardin Tan located in the Royal Botanic Gardens.
Trees, flowers and beautifully manicured lawns beautifully paving the way towards our culinary feast. Though the gardens did not end at the door to the restaurant. Read on and I'll explain...
With it being a warm summer's day, Miss 3 asked if we could sit in the courtyard. Though I wasn't expecting the courtyard to actually be a garden within the Botanic Gardens.
We were shown to a table underneath a big mature tree. Miss 3, being a huge animal lover, was delighted to see all of the different types of birds come and land on its branches above us, it was a new experience for me too.
The waitress explained to us that Shannon Bennett believed in garden-to-plate dining. That she had a vision to create a restaurant with the freshest of produce and serve them as quickly as possible.
There is fresh and then there is Jardin Tan fresh, taking freshness to a whole new level.
Whilst we where waiting for our food to arrive, Miss 3 and I took a short walk through gardens. She was so fascinated to actually see the food that we about to eat, being grown on site. I have never seen her so excited to try the range of amazing home grown veggies bought to our plate. She even woofed down all of the leafy greens!
As for the food, oh my word it truly was sensational. The crunch of the salads, the explosion of flavours. The talented infusion of two great global food nations brought together by culinary excellence and freshly harvested ingredients.
If you'd rather not eat a full meal, there is an outdoor seating area and kiosk serving drinks and light snacks too.
Last but by no means least, an ice cream stand selling a wide variety of flavours, which Miss 3 quickly devoured even after eating a huge lunch.
Miss 3 has renamed Jardin Tan the "Garden Restaurant" and she can't wait to go back.
With it being a restaurant of that style and quality, neither can I.
Why not try Jardin Tan for yourself. We are offering one lucky KidTown Melbourne reader the chance to win a family lunch to the value of $150. Stay tuned over on Facebook for the announcement.
