Magical Medieval Experience in Ballarat

Kryal Castle is an award winning tourist attraction in Ballarat, a short distance from Sovereign Hill.

Kryal Castle

Cross the drawbridge of Kryal Castle and enter a legendary middle age village of adventure celebrating all the great things you know and love from mythical medieval tales; knights, dragons, wizards, kings, queens, princesses, fairies and so forth.

Choose to journey through the the chambers of the Dragons Labyrinth, which reveals the legend of Kryal. Alternatively, watch a thrilling jousting competition, complete with amoured knights riding their magnificent warhorses in the main arena.

Find your way out of the puzzling brick maze, watch an enchanting pantomime, or learn the ancient art of archery.

Why not treat yourselves to an overnight stay too? You can extend your medieval adventure by booking a Castle Suite at Kryal for a night or two. Sleep like a King, Queen, Prince or Princess (watch out for peas!) and immerse yourselves in the times of yesteryear.

The History of Kryal Castle

Kryal Castle exists due to one man's fascination of all things medieval. His name was Keith Ryall, who as a young boy, declared he would one day build his own castle and become a king.

He built is castle.

He learnt to fashion armour and swords in the shed behind his house in Creswick, and as the demand for his work grew, so too did his need for an ‘appropriate’ place to work from…

In 1972, Keith began building the castle, which formally opened 2 years later primarily as a tourist attraction but also as an educational, conference and function facility with ‘royal’ accommodation and a wedding chapel.

The attraction has recently undergone a major transformation.
