There is light in the dark this winter, with a new immersive art experience opening at Melbourne's world-renowned science museum; Scienceworks.

LightTime at Scienceworks

LightTime brings together eleven experimental artists who present their 'other-worldly' bright and colourful works using lights, sounds and optics.

Opening 1 July and created exclusively for Scienceworks, LightTime blurs the lines between science and art to engage visitors with an immersive experience unlike anything else you will see this winter.

Not limited to young visitors, LightTime is perhaps better understood by the grown-ups. That said, your children will love exploring the open space filled with beautiful lights and sounds.

The installations that engage most with children would be:

Deep Dream by Kit Webster The 'Infinity Room', which sees a space filled with a mosaic of mirrors and changeable light displays.

Skunk Control by Epiphany's Genesis Mould into comfy beanbags whilst looking up to admire a beautiful collection of mechatronic flowers, which open up to display insect wings, skeletons and opals.

Drawing Rhythm with Both Hands by Eiichi Tosaki and Steve Stelios Adam An interactive installation, which encourages visitors to draw with both hands in the air, using LED light instruments. Children (and adults) enjoy watching their very own projected patterns projected onto the big screen.

LightTime is, as you'd imagine, a large dark room. Your little people are free to explore the open space, and will do doubt thrive on being able to do so.

Allow yourselves an hour to enjoy the exhibition with your family, or longer if you don't have to run around after the kids.

Scienceworks encourages families to enjoy this exclusive, immersive exhibition although there will be a NightLight event held after hours for adult adventurers on Friday 18 August, 2017.
