With the mercury rising to a summer high, the Movies is always a good place to seek refuge. This is exactly what the G boys and I did.
With so many brilliant family movies to choose from at the moment we were spoilt for choice. But it was a no brainer when we found out that the new Monster Trucks movie was showing at the new VJunior cinema in Southland. A cinema designed by kids, for kids.
The boys enjoyed the pre-show entertainment including colouring, making a picture on the Mega Bloks wall, launching cars from the Hot Wheels Tracks, playing giant scrabble or just relaxing in a donught bean bag.
Once we entered the movie theatre and found our seats (we had booked the bean bag seats...definitely the way forward!), the big slide was open for business! The boys couldn't believe it! So much fun and the movie hasn't even started.
After a decent amount of time playing, the slide was closed and everyone took their seats for the movie.
To be honest, Monster Trucks wasn't what I had thought it would be about but it still got the thumbs up from the G boys, which is the important part!
The story follows a high school senior, Tripp who helps out in the local car scrap yard. Tripp is building his very own Monster Truck from old car parts. Things start to get a little more interesting when a local mining company disaster unearths a strange subterranean creature that has a thirst for oil. Tripp befriends one that finds its way on to the scrap yard. He lovingly names him Creech. Together Creech and Tripp go on an adrenalin filled adventure to save the species.
The added bonus of VJunior is the intermission half way through the movie to avoid the toilet breaks during the movie. It also means the kids get another go at the slide to shake their sillies out!
A great concept for kids and well worth it for the experience. There's even a VJunior snack bar where you can order kid friendly refreshments to keep your rugrats' tummies full!
