Moomba in Melbourne is Australia's largest free community festival and it's happening again for the 65th time from Friday 8 to Monday 11 March.
Held on the banks of the Yarra River, Moomba 2019 is ready to entertain Melburnians with a jam-packed program of free events
What's on for kids at Moomba 2019? Plenty! Here's an overview:
SILK, a free interactive sculptural space for children set under a large child-sized ceiling invites families to enjoy a rich and gentle sensory experience from Saturday 9 to Monday 11 March.
Universal at Moomba
Dino fans are invited into the Jurassic World Activity Centre all weekend, with special visits from roaming dinosaurs and an array of palentologist inspired activities to partake in.
If dragons are more your thing, head over to the How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World Activity Centre for a meet and green with Toothless the Dragon, and themed arts and crafts activities.
A meet and greet with the banana-loving Minions Stuart and Kevin will be running around from Saturday to Monday, 11am – 4:30pm
and meet DreamWorks' Trolls ever-positive leader Queen Poppy and Branch will be available for a hug time you won’t forget from Saturday to Monday, 11am – 5:30pm
AWESOME LEGO® Play Zone
Everything is awesome at this year's Moomba at the
AWESOME LEGO® Play Zone. Build up a storm and meet THE LEGO MOVIE 2 characters Emmet, Wyldstyle and Sweet Mayhem throughout the weekend.
Star Lawn - Dance Zone
The Dance Zone on Star Lawn will host a series of cultural dance workshops and showcases, including: Latin, Jamaican dance hall, Afro-Brazilian, flamenco, ballroom, African, hip hop, and more. From Friday to Monday.
For the second year running, Yogabean sessions will also be hosted for children in the Dance Zone
Palm Lawn - Design A Float
Mini creatives can put their artistic flair to use in the Design a Float workshop space from 11am – 7 pm on Saturday, Sunday and Monday at The Pavilion. All ages are welcome and all materials are supplied. The most creative designs will be selected and built for the 2020 Moomba Parade.
Moomba Carnival - Little Land
As well as the big scary rides for the older kids, the Moomba Carnival also has a zone just for juniors. Little Land in the Alexandra Gardens has rides perfect for the youngest Moomba visitors all weekend.
The Green – Box Wars
Box Wars will also be hosting children’s craft workshops throughout Moomba from Saturday to Monday. Using 100% recycled cardboard, children will have the opportunity to learn the balance of imagination and creativity.
The Green – Kids Music Stage
From Saturday to Monday, there's a whole bunch of musical talent taking to The Green - Kids Music Stage featuring family favourites: Dr Hubble, Woody’s World Show, All Day Fritz, Woody’s Ukulele Workshop and the Teeny Tiny Stevies.
