Mornington beach is one of the best beaches to take kids with great sand, shallow water and a superb location. While Mornington beach is usually very popular in summer and the school holidays, it's a great place to take your family when the weather is a little cooler as well.
The public toilets located right next to Mornington beach have been painted and look spectacular. They really liven the beach up a bit and make usually drab public toilets look a lot more inviting and (almost) fun!
The beach is lovely and soft. Some have suggested that it makes perfect sand for sandcastles! The water is nice and shallow and there are no deep rips to cause concerns for kids. In fact, the water is also quite clear - so little schools of fish can be seen if you wait long enough.
Dogs are permitted during certain time periods and no alcohol is to be consumed on the beach.
Mornington beach itself is located right on the Esplanade in Mornington. The drive itself is stunning, with the road meandering along the coast with stunning views across the bay to Melbourne.
The beach boxes on Mornington beach look spectacular - but are unfortunately unaffordable for most people! They make excellent subjects for pictures and a number of local painters include them in their Mornington beach landscapes.
If you go for a walk along the beach, it's worth going all the way to the boardwalk and pier. While parts are currently undergoing some maintenance, it's usually a great spot for fishermen - with plenty of fish caught during the week and weekends. Maybe it's an opportunity to bring a little handline and do some fishing!
