Introduce your kids to Shakespeare in a very special theatre that will quite literally 'pop-up' in Melbourne this spring.
The Pop-up Globe is a free standing custom built replica of one of the greatest theatres in history; The Globe Theatre in London.
Pop-up Globe Melbourne
With the capacity to house an audience of 900 people (both seated and standing), the Pop-up Globe is a 16-sided, three-story structure using scaffold technology.
The project was initially planned as a temporary theatre, set up in Auckland NZ to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death. After entertaining audiences of over 100,000 over the duration, after the season was extended twice, the Pop-up Globe gained worldwide attention. Thus the full scale replica of The Globe now arrives in Melbourne.
Enjoy four of Shakespeare's critically acclaimed plays at the Pop-up Globe: As You Like It, Much Ado About Nothing, Othello and Henry V.
Audiences will also be treated to a specially-commissioned new show, Around the Globe in 60 Minutes! which will thrust audiences into the maelstrom of history, allowing them to experience the triumphs and disasters that tell the incredible story of the second Globe Theatre.
These spectacular shows will take you back in time to enjoy all the theatrical trickery of the Jacobean era with cannons, flaming arrows, litres of fake blood, hand-forged armoury and more than 450 beautiful bespoke period costumes pieces specially constructed by the Pop-up Globe in-house wardrobe department.
