PUFFS the Play is an unmissable show for all Hogwarts fans.

Hey Hogwarts fans, are you counting down the days to watch Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on the Melbourne stage in 2019?

Stop right now because PUFFS the Play is in town! If you're a Potter enthusiast, you really shouldn’t miss this one.

PUFFS in Melbourne

PUFFS the Play tells the tale of the underdogs at the famed school of witchcraft and wizardry in which a “certain boy wizard” was once thrown into the limelight.

This time instead of Harry Potter taking the lead, PUFFS tells us what happened to Wayne and the Hufflepuffs during their own “seven increasingly eventful years at a certain school of magic!”.

Wayne? Yes, Wayne!

If you thought poor Harry went to the dark depths of magic and beyond at Hogwarts, wait till you hear Wayne’s story, and Megan’s, Cedric’s, Sally’s stories or the rest of the Hufflepuffs for that matter!

PUFFS the Play is a hilarious off-shoot of the seven great stories written by J.K. Rowling. The once not-so-popular Hufflepuffs are finally given the attention they unknowingly deserve. What you get as a result is a witty Off-Broadway stage play that will please all the muggles.

PUFFS arrived in Australia from New York and has been adapted to suit Australian audiences. In the Melbourne performance of PUFFS Wayne has been raised by an uncle in Queensland; a little different from his New Mexico upbringing in the American stage version.

The stage set of PUFFS is magnificent. Walk into the Alex Theatre in St Kilda, and you are instantly immersed into a miniature wizardry themed adventure before the show even begins.

The cast of PUFFS make this theatre performance one to remember. Each actor throwing themselves into a 90s wizard-student role, matched with synonymous fashion from the era. Why 90s? Because the Harry Potter book series was first released in the late 1990s of course!

Die hard Potter fans, if you think PUFFS is mockery of your favourite book series, it isn’t! Instead, PUFFS the Play is a clever, different and very funny view of your favourite school of wizardry. With a nod to J.K. Rowling’s famed literary series, references made to the original seven tales are done in a tongue-in-cheek Hugglepuffs fashion, revealing even more happenings that took place under the roof of Hogwarts.

Without giving too much away, you will still meet the lead characters you know and love from the Potter series (briefly), but PUFFS is not about them it’s about the Hufflepuffs!

The underlying message of PUFFS tells us that it’s OK not to win and it’s alright to make mistakes. PUFFS celebrates individuality and acknowledges bravery in the face of failure; that in itself is a reason to take your kids. Take note however, family-friendly PUFFS matinees are on Saturdays at 2pm and Sundays at 1pm. Evening “uncensored” performances are recommended for audiences aged 15yrs plus.

PUFFS the Play is an unmissable show for Melbourne Hogwarts fans, however it is worth noting that you ought to know your Hufflepuff from your Gryffindor and your Slytherin from your Ravenclaw before you go. Potter heads, this one is for you!

Proudly don your Hufflepuff scarf and head to St Kilda to see PUFFS at the Alex Theatre before 29 July, 2018. The PUFFS Melbourne season has been extended, giving you even more reason to immerse yourselves in a little extra Hogwarts before winter is done.
