Whoever said that Winter needs to be boring? So much going on in this wonderful city of ours!
Today my family tried out Skate, Slide and Chill at South Wharf and we had a great day out. The Skate, Slide and Chill zone is setup near the Common Man pub at the end of the line of restaurants at South Wharf. There is a ice-skating rink, an ice slide as well as a small breakout area and bar.
Minimum age on the ice is 3 years old so myself and my daughter jumped on the rink while the boys (my husband and 14 month old) watched and enjoyed a few beers. The ice-skating caters for all abilities with skates of all sizes as well as double bladed strap on skates that are worn over shoes and plastic rabbits that children can either ride on or behind for extra balance. We tried them all as my little Elsa obsessed daughter thought she would be dancing on the ice like the Disney on Ice show she saw last year. Soon she realised it wasn't as simple as it it seems and we had to get some assistance.
The slide is only a few meters high but it is steep and not for the feint hearted, I was a bit unsure about letting my 3 year old slide on her own so I jumped on with her and I must say I let out a scream on the way down! Having said that there are children and adults of all ages having a go.
The area is not huge, but definitely enough entertainment for an hour or two. A ticket buys you 45 mins on the ice and slide and drinks are at bar prices. There is also a face painter there on Sundays 2-4pm for a gold coin donation with proceeds going to Feed Melbourne.
Skate Slide and Chill is on till August 1 and sessions are on the hour every hour during open times.
