The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) will host a series of hands-on workshops, exhibitions and activities for your children to enjoy over the September school holiday break.

CREATIVE WORKSHOPS

Hermannsburg Potters Papier Mache Pot Workshop

Celebrating NGV's exhibition opening of the Hermannsburg Potters, Our Land is Alive: Hermannsburg Potters for Kids, the Hermannsburg Potters will be artists in residence making their unique terracotta pots.

The unique exhibition will see twenty AFL-themed terracotta pots on display, featuring players such as Cyril Rioli, Adam Goodes, Lewis Jetta and Curtly Hampton and moments from each team.

You and your children are encouraged to meet the artists and get into the spirit of the AFL finals whilst decorating your own papier mache pot.

When: 19, 20, 22, 23 September, 2015

Hermannsburg Potters of the Northern Territory


Draw a Dog with Kat

Melbourne illustrator Kat Chadwick, known for her whimsical drawings seen in NGV's exclusive activity book: Catherine the Great: An Art Book for Kids, will be on hand at the NGV to teach your children how to draw and create illustrations of their own.

CHILD FRIENDLY ART EXHIBITIONS

There is still plenty to see at the NGV regardless of whether your children wish to partake in creative workshops or not. The following exhibitions are designed for children and families to experience and enjoy.

Our Land is Alive: Hermannsburg Potters for Kids Exhibition

Linking art, football and indigenous culture, the Our Land is Alive: Hermannsburg Potters for Kids exhibition sees renowned indigenous art collective Hermannsburg Potters of the Northern Territory, create twenty unique AFL-themed terracotta pots. The display has been more than a year in the making and is the first major exhibition of its kind at the NGV.

Open House: Tromarama for Kids Exhibition

The dedicated kid's exhibition Open House: Tromarama for Kids features an immersive house of fun inside the NGV. Dance on the disco 'ceiling' of the upside-down dining room, make mini videos using stop-motion animation, and watch fun films created by Indonesian art collective Tromarama.

Bunyips and Dragons: Australian Children’s Book Illustration Exhibition

See if you or your children will recognise some of the amazing drawings, paintings and illustrations on display in the Bunyips and Dragons: Australian Children’s Book Illustration Exhibition seen in some of Australia's most loved children's books.

Featuring drawings and illustrations by artists Shaun Tan and Graeme Base as well as large scale works by authors Bob Graham (Greetings from Sandy Beach), Leigh Hobbs (Old Tom), Terry Denton (A Teddy Bear’s Picnic) and lots more.

When: Closed Mondays. Now until 4 October.
