Fairy-tale cast announced for SHREK THE MUSICAL

Everyone's favourite fairy-tale ogre Shrek stomps onto the stage in 2020. Australia's leading theatre producer John Frost brings SHREK THE MUSICAL to the Melbourne, performing at Her Majesty’s Theatre from 16 February.


The star-studded cast has been announced. Lead stars will be Ben Mingay as Shrek, Lucy Durack as Princess Fiona and Todd McKenney as Lord Farquaad.

The role of the Donkey who becomes Shrek’s best friend will be played by Nat Jobe in his first lead role in a commercial musical.


Marcia Hines will play The Dragon during the Melbourne season for performances from 18 March onwards.

Ben Mingay has played Tommy DeVito in Jersey Boys, the title role in The Phantom of the Opera, Zack in An Officer and A Gentleman, and Billy in the original Australian, UK and US productions of Dirty Dancing.

Lucy Durack shot to stardom as Glinda the Good Witch in the original Australian production of Wicked, and has since played Elle Woods in Legally Blonde, Glinda in GFO’s The Wizard of Oz, Sybil Chase in Private Lives and Peggy Sawyer in 42nd Street amongst others, and recently was a judge on Channel 7’s Australia’s Got Talent.

Todd McKenney has previously been seen on stage in countless musicals including The Rocky Horror Show, Grease, Anything Goes and The Boy From Oz, but is probably better known as a judge on Channel 7’s Dancing With The Stars.

SHREK THE MUSICAL features music and lyrics based on the Oscar®-winning DreamWorks film Shrek and William Steig's 1990 book Shrek. Still today, three of the Shrek films are in the Top 20 Highest Grossing Animated Films of all time.

SHREK THE MUSICAL is part romance, part twisted fairy tale and all irreverent fun for everyone!
