The Briars in Mount Martha is a massive 230 hectare property offering walking tracks, a café and restaurant, an information centre, nursery, astronomy centre.... the list goes on.
A recent day trip to The Briars saw us visiting the information centre which the kids loved! A hands on centre with models, displays, books, and lots of information about activities and events on at The Briars and the Mornington Peninsula.
We decided on a short trail walk as the day was hot and the kids were tired which lead us along a short boardwalk followed by a dirt track through the Woodlands. We didn't get very far before the kids wanted to head back so we will return when the weather cools to venture out on the Wetland Walk through the wildlife sanctuary. This walk is along a boardwalk that is suitable for prams and wheelchairs.
We have previously been to The Briars for a pirate themed birthday party at the Angus & Rose Café. This included a search for treasure among the rose gardens and the opportunity for the kids to pot their very own plant to take home!
We also celebrated my mum's 60th Birthday at Josephine's restaurant in June a few years ago. The scenery was idyllic, the food was delicious and the smell of the open fire was homely and comforting!
The Spotlight Walks during the school holidays venture through the property after dark to spot animals such as kangaroos, wallabies, possums and bats sound like lots of fun. Bookings are essential and a small admission fee required however, entrance to The Briars is FREE every day of the year, so why not enjoy a picnic lunch and a trail walk for an inexpensive, fun day!
