Teen dance prodigy, Dance Moms star, and judge on So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation  Maddie Ziegler presents her coming of age memoir about following her dreams and working hard to achieve success in both dance and life.

The Maddie Diaries
A Memoir

Maddie Ziegler was just eight years old when she was cast on Lifetime’s hit reality show Dance Moms and quickly won the hearts of fans everywhere with her talent and determination. Soon, she was catching eyes all over the world—including those of pop superstar Sia, who handpicked her to star in the incredibly popular music video “Chandelier.”

I read this book with my 8 year old daughter. She was super excited as she actually knew who Maddie was. I was none the wiser. Oh, that’s not entirely true, I LOVE the chandelier music video she dances in. Poppy went all dreamy as we opened the book!

"I want people to know the real me- the silly stuff, the serious stuff, and everything in between"- Maddie

In my opinion, because this autobiography is purely aimed at young girls, it’s a hard read as an adult. You almost need to become a 14-year-old and read it in that tweeny voice. It’s chatty, a bit silly, and well, very like a 14 year olds mind. Having said that, there is no doubt Maddie has worked incredibly hard to get to where she is, and she uses this book to tell us all about her rise to stardom.

She intersperses her story with funny quotes, recipes she likes, tales from her friends, and their mums! There are little sketches placed throughout the book which she has done herself, and plenty of photos to flick through too. She also takes time to answer some of her fans’ burning questions with ‘wise’ advice she’s learned on her journey.

Poppy liked all the little sketches

With honesty and a little humour, Maddie offers her unique perspective on making her way in the world as a young teenager. She encourages readers to be happy in their own skin and to just be themselves.

The plus of this book is, for kids it's an easy read, even for an 8-year-old, although much better suited to a young teen. My advice is swot up on all things Maddie before peeling back the cover otherwise you’ll be in a world of cluelessness.

If you have Maddie Ziegler fans at home, this is the ideal gift for them. A whole 221 pages dedicated to dance, makeup, music, posing, and celeb talk. It’s a sort of terrifying insight into a modern 14 year olds mind; just what young girls want to read!

The Maddie Diaries
It's a pretty book!
