It has been 45 years since one of the most read children's books of all time The Very Hungry Caterpillar first hit our bookshelves, and now Eric Carle's legendary book hits the stage in a world premier theatrical production: The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show.

This brand new Australian made show will present 75 puppets made by widely acclaimed New York company; Puppet Kitchen. Staff at Puppet Kitchen have worked on various smash hit shows such as Sesame Street, Disney's The Bear in the Big Blue House, Avenue Q on Broadway and more.

Spanning over four decades of storytelling, The Very Hungry Caterpillar book has excited and educated generations of children, and now the delightful story will entertain both young and old in an enchanting live show.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show is set to be a 50 minute adventure into the world of Eric Carle. As well as his legendary caterpillar story, some of Eric Carle’s other bestselling classics will feature in the performance including, Mr. Seahorse, The Very Lonely Firefly,and The Artist Who Painted A Blue Horse.

The audience is set to be captivated by amazing on stage creatures including an 8 foot red crocodile, a life size yellow cow, a world of underwater sea creatures, a 3 metre beautiful butterfly, as well as the star of the show; the very hungry caterpillar.

To accompany the The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show , there will be a range of activities to compliment its theme including a fun workshop after the performance where children can create their very own hungry caterpillar.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show will open in Sydney on 8 January 2015, move onto Melbourne on 24 March showing until 2 April 2015 at Chapel off Chapel, before performing in Brisbane in July 2015.

There will be a relaxed performance for children with special needs and autism on Tuesday 31 March at 3pm where the doors to the auditorium will remain open so that children and parents can come and go as they please, house lights will remain on to provide easy access, and a resting zone will be set up outside the theatre with a live feed so children that need to leave can still watch the show.

Tickets to The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show are on sale here. Age recommendation is 1 – 7 years, with under 2’s free.
