Outdoor adventures at the Enchanted Adventure Garden, Mornington Peninsula
We knew we'd enjoy the Enchanted Adventure Garden. What we hadn't expected was just how much our boys would relish the experience.
Enchanted Adventure Garden
After hearing nothing but glowing reports of the Enchanted Adventure Garden we had a rough idea of what to expect.
Driving up to the award-winning family attraction is quite spectacular, located high up on Arthur's Seat hinterland. Arthur's Seat is at the top of the Mornington Peninsula, therefore viewpoints of Port Phillip Bay are at their best here. Tip: stop for photographs of the bay after leaving the Enchanted Adventure Gardens because it's easier to park up at viewpoints heading down from Arthur's Seat, not on the way up.
The Enchanted Adventure Garden is an outdoor play park nestled in nature. With beautifully maintained gardens complete with manicured hedges, water fountains, sculptures and mazes, the setting itself is worth seeing.
Fun gardens to explore
Let's face it though, the kids were not visiting the Enchanted Adventure Gardens for the scenery, they wanted adventure and that's exactly what they got.
Tree surfing is what the Enchanted Adventure Garden is perhaps most famous for, so we booked our 9 year old (with Dad too) in for the experience. Tree surfing is split into "Tree Surfing Grand" and "Tree Surfing Nippers" experiences. Note that tree surfing experiences are an additional cost.
Tree Surfing Grand is for adults and children over 135cm. The experience offers over tree-top climbing with over 50 aerial obstacles per course plus bridges and zip-lines.
For the 4/5 year olds (under 135cm) the Tree Surfing Nippers offers three levels of climbing, jumping and swinging up in the trees.
What we hadn't realised was how lengthy the Tree Surfing Grand would be; 2 hours is the suggested timeframe to complete the course! Our two completed the course in around 1.5 hours although Dad was particularly exhausted keeping up with Mr.9!
While we left the bigs experience to Tree Surfing, Mr.4 and Mum took to the tube slides. So much fun! What I hadn't expected was the confidence our 4 year old would have. He is usually quite uncertain about adventurous activities, but the tube slides? No worries whatsoever! He absolutely going up and down that tube slide, I lost count of the times he did so.
When our 9 year old finished his tree surf, he joined in with the tube slides, choosing the faster/longer paths.
Our last activity of the day? Zip-lining, i.e. the Big Zip. A separate activity to the Tree Surfing Grand & Nippers, the Big Zip zooms down 300m across the gardens and lake. It's certainly scarier looking at it than actually participating; speaking from experience!
The Big Zip
The Enchanted Adventure Garden is packed full of things to do, so you really need to blank out anything else you might've had planned that day. You can literally spend a whole day here. Pack a picnic or buy hot and cold food & beverages from the Balcony Café. Be warned; there is a big lolly shop!
Would we recommend a visit to the Enchanted Adventure Garden? You bet! This is now on our list of top things to do in Greater Melbourne.
