The Vikings have landed! Vikings: Beyond the Legend at Melbourne Museum is now open.
Displaying over 450 artefacts from the Swedish History Museum, this exhibition is a chance to delve deep into the captivating culture of the Vikings.
The relicts in this exciting exhibition arrive in Melbourne direct from the Swedish History Museum. This extensive display shows us why the Viking age still continues to fascinate us today, some 1000 years later.
To coincide with the exhibition, there will be free Viking themed school holiday activities happening this Autumn:
A chance for your children to learn what it was really like to live like a Viking.
Join Melbourne’s own recreation groups the New Varangian Guard, Joms Vikings and Wessex, who will be living at Melbourne Museum for the second week of the school holidays!.
They’ll bring to life diverse aspects of the Vikings. See Vikings costumes, tents, furs, pottery, cooking, games, blacksmithing, textiles, spinning, knitting, weaving and much more.

In the age of Vikings, Norse people developed intricate and ornate styles of art across a range of materials. From the longship dragon heads to everyday objects, great care was taken to incorporate decoration and design in all aspects of society.
Explore different styles of Viking art and make a piece of wearable art to take home.
