If you are not familiar with the adventures of the British clay animation comedy series Wallace & Gromit because there is so much to feast your eyes over, it really won't matter.

As the name of this exhibition suggests, 'Wallace & Gromit and Friends' celebrates 40 years of the world's most successful film studios, Aardman, which extends much further than Wallace and his Kanine companion.

The Aardman Studios' creative team are responsible for producing hugely popular stop-animation television shows for children such as the loveable and hilarious Shaun the Sheep series.

Couple that with one of the highest grossing stop-animation movies of all time Chicken Run as well as family favourites Flushed Away, Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, Arthur Christmas and The Pirates! Band of Misfits and you've got a mighty packed exhibition to enjoy.

The ACMI's exclusive exhibition boasts some 350 objects exploring the Aardman Studio's impressive history, now spanning four decades of stop-animation.

The exhibition is split into segments related to each feature film and televised show. Enjoy your favourite Aardman film in intricate glory and admire Aardman's timeless talents using clay figures and miniature sets to produce the animated stories you know and love.

Highlights include the spectacular (and not so miniature) 5-metre tall ship from The Pirates! Band of Misfits, the flying machine from Chicken Run and dozens of stunning sets and figurines from Aardman's collection.

Wallace & Gromit and Friends: The Magic of Aardman is a delight to see. There is so much to take in, you would ideally need a couple of hours or more and possibly even a second visit!

The KidTown crew spent most of our time in the ‘Studio’ at the rear of the gallery and had the best time!

Inspired by the works of Aardman, we made a claymation creature and brought her to life using one of the stop-animation iPad stations, all of which come complete with themed background scenes. This isn’t difficult to do, and the ACMI’s friendly staff are on hand to help.

While an interactive robot complete with a stop-animation video set up is not quite Aardman themed, this extra feature pleased the little man no end.

A big congratulations to everyone involved in bringing Wallace & Gromit and Friends: The Magic of Aardman to the ACMI in Melbourne. This is an exhibition which speaks to children just as much as the grown-ups, with so much Aardman talent to admire and plenty of interactive fun for all ages.

You’ve got until 29 January 2018 to see Wallace & Gromit and Friends: The Magic of Aardman at ACMI. Make sure you don't miss it!

To coincide with the exhibition, there will be hands-on animation workshops, late night talks and screenings of Aardman movies in the ACMI cinema.
