Robotics, STEM Sundays a new Planetarium show and a Deep Sea Disco at Scienceworks this Autumn

Melbourne's very own Science museum in Spotswood dedicated to all things space, technology and discovery has an action-packed program ready to entertain and educate visitors this Autumn.

What's on:

Little Sparks

Aimed at younger children 3-5yrs, Little Sparks is a 50 minute, fun-filled workshop led by a Scienceworks educators according to themes that change throughout the year.

The first workshop in the series is ‘Float your Boat’ – discover the highs and lows of density and explore which solids, liquids and gases will sink, and which will float.

Costs: Child $16, Member child $14. Participating adult free with general entry ($15 for non-members, free for members)

STEM Sundays

Scienceworks’ robotics and coding workshops are back with STEM Sundays. There are four different workshops available for ages 5 – 18 that run over most Sundays from February to June: Lego Robotics and Coding (8 – 12), Storytelling with ScratchJr (5 – 7) and Makey Makey (6 – 10). Beginners’ Workshop are also avalable for grown-ups too!

STEM Sundays run on Sunday afternoons at 1pm. All workshops run for 90 minutes. Numbers for each session are limited so book ahead.

Costs: Tickets range from $20 - $40.

Robotica: Festival of Futurism

The Robotica: Festival of Futurism at Scienceworks features a huge range of robotics and tech activations. Running 2 March from 10am - 3pm, Robotica: Festival of Futurism invites collaborators and exhibitors to host a tech expo featuring interactive robotics, technology, VR, makerspaces, exhibits, a range of speakers and a DJ too.

The event is most suitable for ages 12 plys and families with teenagers, but everyone is welcome to attend.

Costs: Free with general entry.

Moonbase ONE: New Planetarium Show

Scienceworks has announced a brand new Planetarium show Moonbase ONE. Experience an amazing adventure as humanity strives to understand our magnificent neighbour the Moon. Recommended for ages 8 and up.

Note: The Planetarium will be closed from 10 Feb to 9 March for renovations.

Costs: Price range: $0 - $8 Plus museum entry: $0 - $15

Little Kids’ Day In – Deep Sea Disco

The next Little Kids' Day In event on May 6 invites under 5s, parents and carers to join an underwater adventure into the deep. Dress up as your favourite sea creature and dive into a day filled with play-based activities and shows.

Costs: Free with general entry.
