These days going out to a café for a milkshake treat doesn't seem to quite cut it anymore. This probably has something to with the introduction of super shakes to the café cuisine. We had our first 'freak' shake experience today and it was as epic as it looks.

Freak Shake

For those of you who are new to super shakes I'll give you an idea of what they are. The concept goes something like this; select your favourite milkshake favour and pile with as much ice-cream, cream, lollies, biscuits, chocolates, topping, sprinkles, fairy floss and lollipops that is physically possible. The result is a beautiful, chaotic, mess of delicious proportions.

The café we went to for our monster milkshake experience was 'Bubbly Beans' in Chelsea, which offers five flavours as part of their Premium shakes range. These are Oreo, Maltesers, Candy, Salted Caramel, and Nutella, a tough decision I agree! The best thing is they offer a small or large size for your mini and big kids alike.

The joy of eating this epic creation was tantamount to the sugar high that followed. The aftermath was not pretty but highly amusing. My main man was defeated!

Want to where you can find these delectable delights for yourself? Here is a list (not complete or endorsed) of a sample of cafes in Melbourne Bayside that serve these gourmet goodies:

Bubbly Beans, Chelsea
The Bluff, Sandringham
Sugar Buns, Hampton Park
Cake Cottage, Frankston
Dolce House Gelato, McKinnon
Main Street Cafe, Mordialloc
Brighton Soul, Brighton
The Local on Como, Parkdale
Cool Bean Kitchen, Moorabbin

Comment below or send us a message if you know of a place near you that serves these fabulous, freakish, fun treats.

The Mustard Seed Cafe at the Carrum Downs shopping centre also makes them and they donate their profits to community organisations.
