See The Great Illusionist at the Arts Centre Melbourne; an enchanting tale about a boy who longs to be a magician
Netherlands based Het Filiaal theatremakers invites Melbourne audiences to enjoy the enchanting tale of The Great Illusionist over one short weekend this August.
The Great Illusionist at the Arts Centre Melbourne
The Great Illusionist follows a young boy who longs to be a magician. The performance is made up of three intertwined stories where Melbourne theatre goers are given an insight into the lives of a clever rabbit, magician’s assistant and the young illusionist-in-training.
This is a theatre performance packed with clever illusions and tricks along the way. Mixing world-class puppetry with smart trickery and a sprinkling of comedy (a crazy rabbit chase!), The Great Illusionist promises to be a highly entertaining show for children aged 8 plus.
“As a theatre company, we weren’t interested in making a “Glitter & Glamour Magic Show”, says The Great Illusionist director and writer Monique Corvers.
“We weren’t attracted by the display window but in what it really takes to do magic well, all the effort that goes into it to practice tricks over and over and over again, just to fool people. And of course there’s the drama of the assistance who in reality often executes the tricks, but doesn’t get the credit for it”. Corvers explains.
